When Things Go Right (The Ideal Week)

Describe your ideal week.

When you work in a factory, your weekly activity is pretty much the same, day in, day out.

But as a former Safety Director, it’s anything but that.  You hope to make it through the week without any of the following: accidents (especially those resulting in injuries), illnesses, chemical spills, OSHA/EPA inspections and many other unplanned, undesired events.

This is what a good week was for me was like (I’ve since retired from it all and work from home as a writer, photographer and online scoring Team Leader in a different field).

Monday: A good night’s sleep and enjoyable ride to work.  A staff meeting with no accidents to report.  If there were any, a good accident investigation and recurrence prevention method implemented.  Also an inspiring weekly meeting with the employees.

Monday Night Football!

Tuesday: Being awake enough from last night’s game to be effective for the day.  Depending on the company, safety meetings/inspections (if not the day before).

It’s $5 day at the movie theater and free popcorn.  I don’t care WHAT’S showing, I need that buttered popcorn.

Wednesday: Hump Day!  Everyone is in their groove and looking forward to closing the day and week out strong.

Thursday: Hoping the people aren’t so eager for the weekend to start that they lose focus and get careless.  I remind the supervisors to tell them that in their brief, pre-production meetings, as I do each day.

Thursday Night Football!

Friday: Usually good spirits all around.  The week is ending and, depending on the week, folks got paid.  I’ve spent a small part of the day planning the activity for the next week.

Also trying to convince my wife to go out for dinner! She doesn’t want to cook and neither do I!

Saturday: College Football Game Day!  If I haven’t slept in, hopefully I’ve got some housework done because from noon until about 11 p.m., it’ s all gridiron and grilling!

Sunday: More of the same.  A good, hot breakfast and time for God.  1:00 p.m. means the first round of NFL games (have you learned that I’m a football fan yet? Go Bears!).  And yes, there will be wings…

Depending on who’s playing in the afternoon, I’m either watching Red Zone (coverage of all the games at once), at a sports bar with friends or out with the family somewhere.  We also have a weekly family meeting.

If I haven’t lost my voice from screaming at my Bears game, I’m enjoying sticking it to my friends, if their teams are playing (and losing) for Sunday Night Football.

Of course, now that I’m working from home, I get to spend a great deal of time during the day with my first grandchild.  Another is on the way! I love being RoboPopPop.

Life is good, despite the drop in income…
