Music & Movies Done Right

What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.

Something I would love to do is start a music/record label and movie production company, a two-in-one.

I’ve never been happy with how actors and performers are traditionally treated in Hollywood and the music industry. Particularly in music. I’ve seen so many people go broke because of poor promotion, lack of touring and shady contracts, where their portion of the profits is less than satisfying.

On the cinema side of things, Hollywood is quick to drop someone that they no longer deem attractive enough or a sizeable enough box office draw. And let’s not forget the racist and sexist aspects of it over the years. My company would focus more on diversity and equality in pay and treatment for actors, writers, and everyone else involved.

As far as the music industry goes, given the ability and capital, I would offer music contracts that make it possible for artists to enjoy what they do, while seeing more favorable fruit for their labor. The portion that they make from album sales is so low that they hardly see any of it. And if they’re not touring, they’re definitely not making enough money to reflect the financial success of the album. And of course, each one would be assigned a financial advisor.

And more attention would be paid to real music. Not a lot of this garbage that’s out today. I’d make room for more projects requiring actual musicians, hopefully and ultimately leading to a greater desire for students to take up music classes in school, learning how to play instruments again.

Yeah, I know. I probably wouldn’t profit as much as these leeches that run things today. But I’m sure I’d snag a good percentage of the talent that’s out there, knowing they’d be treated fairly with me.

Just my thoughts on it all…
