A Different Tale About Malcolm X

What book are you reading right now?

I am re-reading the book, “The Dead Are Arising: The Life Of Malcolm X” by Les Payne and Tamara Payne.

Anyone who knows the story of the Muslim minister and Black/human rights activist Malcolm X knows his position on multiple issues before and during the Civil Rights movement as well as his impact in the world, then and now.

Those who sought more information about his life and legacy have read the influential classic, “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”, his collaborative project with author Alex Haley (famously known for his book, “Roots”).

This book has gained so much traction over the years that it was later adapted into a major motion picture in 1992 by film director Spike Lee.

During my search for comparisons between the book and film, I learned that there were key components of his life that were not mentioned in either.  I stated this in my blog article, “Malcom X: 20 Things The Movie Got Wrong (Or Neglected To Clarify)”.

One major omission was the story about his secret meeting with members of the Ku Klux Klan, during which time they discussed the facilitation of segregation between the Black and white communities. Although there was no love lost between the attendees, they realized that they had the same ideology, complete separation of the races.

This book reveals the coordination and overview of said meetings as well as a version of his life, as told by others, including several of his siblings.

I intend to gather the information contained therein, along with additional manuscripts, to provide a broader description when I cover him during African American History month, this upcoming February.

For anyone who intends to read this book, trust me, there is so much more to his world than what you think you know.

I highly recommend you give this one a try.
