Doing It All Over Again -aka- Striking While The Iron Is Still Hot

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

When asked what the one thing is I would change about myself, I would have to answer in two parts. That’s because they’re based on WHEN the change occurs.

If it were within my power, I would change WHEN I got started in writing and photography, both of which, I took an active interest in within the last 10 years.

You see, it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I decided to start taking writing seriously at the behest of many friends on social media. I constantly posted mini-stories in Facebook Notes, trying to condense so much in so little space. They were detailed enough, but it was obvious that I could expand any of them for a more enjoyable experience for my readers.

With each post, people kept telling me I needed to put my stories in an autobiography. Some were encouraging me to go the way of the podcast. And others, as you can see, told me to consider a blog page. Well, you know what the end result was.

Not that the books aren’t on the way too…

I just wish I had decided to pursue the way of the journalist back in college when I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do in life. I’m sure some Creative Writing courses would have been of great benefit back then. Especially since I’m trying to get it all in NOW.

Yeah, starting late or starting over can really suck.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my career as an Environmental, Safety & Health Director, but I think this might have been more satisfying.

Definitely a lot less stressful.

I also wish I had taken up photography back around the same time when I could hang upside down by my knees from streetlights and take the wildest shots. I’m much older now so when I get on the ground to take “worm’s eye” view photos of people, I need them to help me get up shortly after.

The same holds true for those hiking trips to get that never-before-seen shot. Gonna need to lose a little (well a LOT of) weight and get these joints repaired before I can venture forth. Especially if I want to walk back down without the assistance of a search party.

Which brings me to the second half of my answer.

Since I obviously can’t go back into time to start sooner in life, all I can do is change my state of being (health) and be more diligent about getting things done as time permits. I admit to being a bit of a procrastinator at times, but worse, even when I’m at it, I tend to not put in 100%.

So there’s my so-called resolution for 2025, although it should be referred to as a life-style commitment. I need to identify what will help me get things done better in the new year and focusing on those things, instead of substituting with mild changes or half-assed efforts. Not just doing it, but doing it the right way.

The key now, is to do it while I’m still able to.

If I can’t do it all over again, I need to strike while the iron is still hot.
