Where The Magic Happens

You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?

If I had the money and time to create a “perfect space” for my reading and writing, it would probably be somewhere that defies logic.

Now that I’ve focused my efforts on writing, I crave serenity, now more than ever. That being said, I would love to have a home somewhere where I could enjoy the view and white noise of a waterfall. No, not electronically, I mean the real thing. A home built in a place where it could withstand the forces of nature, where my office would face a real waterfall.

I would also be positioned facing west so I could enjoy the sunset. That would mean that I would need an electronic tint available during certain hours to resist the harsh rays of the sun when it stands high in the sky and when it descends. But I probably won’t be writing during that time, so it should not be an issue.

So what country would I live in to make this happen? Most definitely Cameroon, although I have absolutely NO idea how a house could or would be built there (or if that view faces west, as I previously mentioned).

The real challenge is reading without gazing back at the flowing water and getting lost in it.

I’d have a hard enough time dealing with tourists, since I can’t buy all of the land and keep them off of it. And I haven’t even begun to talk about the wild animals I’d have to deal with.

Ideally, a waterfall would be an awesome place but after all is said and done, I’m exactly where I want and need to be. My wife is using my office upstairs and since she works from home, I’m camped out in the basement, where I’ve got everything I need. Half of the basement is my photography studio, where the computer is located in the back, facing the big screen tv, so I can watch whatever I want or, if I choose, put a nice waterfall screensaver on it.

So, I’m good either way. Besides, White Castle and Giordano’s Chicago-Style pizza are easier to get to from here.
