I’ve always cherished my time with my grandson and granddaughter — Kamari and Gianna — affectionately known as my Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and my Warm Peanut Butter Cookie, respectively.
Gianna is one month shy of three now, but when she was nearly two years younger, one of our favorite games was when I’d pretend to “bite” her neck, lips covering my teeth. She’d laugh and instinctively push her chin down to block me — but by then, it was always too late. The “Grampire” had struck again.
Now Kamari, who turns one this November 30th, has officially joined the ranks of my neck-nibbling victims.

For the past couple of months, he’s found his own rhythm — that deep, contagious baby laugh that could melt the coldest heart. Click below to hear it for yourself.
Every time I’d press my lips to his neck and yell, “Gimme that neck!”, he’d burst into giggles so pure that even Gianna couldn’t resist laughing too.

Recently, though, something changed.
As he sat on my lap, I leaned in for another playful bite. He froze, smiled, and waited. I teased him, “You know what I want, right?” He glanced at Gianna briefly, pausing, before grinning wider back at me…

…then lunged forward and bit me on the neck with a loud scream!
The whole room exploded with shock, then laughter as I succumbed to the attack, screaming for help…
…though help would never come.
That’s when I realized it: my little buddy hadn’t just been playing. He’d been studying… plotting… learning the system.
The only way a baby could.
Rewind 30 Seconds. Let’s See What REALLY Happened… (Telepathic Toddler Talk)
Gianna (to Kamari): You know he’s about to do the “Grampire” thing again.
Kamari: I know, but I have to keep playing along to humor him. He’s old — trying to get into heaven now. We need to give him happy moments whenever we can.
Gianna: You know he doesn’t know what we are, right?
Kamari: Yeah, I figured. Think I should show him?
Gianna: Why not? Like you said, he’s old. Time to send him on his way.
Grandpa (Me): You know what I want, right?

Gianna: Now.
Kamari (sprouting fangs): I know what you NEED!
Yeah… I thought I was kidding, giving them little “Grampire bites.” I never thought I’d actually turn him. I knew then, I didn’t just create a new game — I started a legacy.
I didn’t even realize I’d already turned Gianna months ago. And that pause from Kamari? It was permission, or rather, the green light, from Gianna.
Turns out, playtime had been “slay time” all along.
So, if you ever find yourself around these kids… be careful what you do….

…and what you unknowingly create.
And oh yes… Happy Halloween! 🎃
