If I Were To Get A Tattoo, It Would Be A… (Repost)

If you had to get a tattoo right now, what would it be and why?

The following is a repost from March 22, 2025, in response to the WordPress/Jetpack Question of the Day: If you had to get a tattoo right now, what would it be and why? This post contains revised images.

It’s never been a desire of mine to get a tattoo, although I respect anyone who has one. It’s their decision and their body. As for my four sons, I told them that even if we lived in a state that permitted tattoos for minors with the consent of an adult, I would not allow it. Of course, turning 18 was an entirely different matter. At that point, they were free to do whatever they pleased, and I would not offer an input or opinion, nor would I judge.

Nothing wrong with tattoos; it’s just that my father was so much against them that he instilled that in me. Fathers can be influential like that. And back in the ’80s, they were nowhere near the “in” thing that they are now. In fact, we used to joke that only sailors and convicts ever got ‘tatted.’

However, if I WERE to get a tattoo, it would be cool as hell…

Never one to be subtle about things, I wouldn’t settle for a small teardrop, NFL team logo or thorned bracelet around my wrist. I would go big.

My favorite animal is the Black Panther and has been for years, long before it became a thing in film with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

My tattoo would be an overhead view of that fierce cat, crawling down the side of my arm as he would a large tree branch.

It would span from my wrist, where its outstretched stepping paw would be, all the way back to my shoulder, where the tail would end in a small curve. Of course, I would have to ensure that my arm had great muscle definition, as a fat or skinny arm would “ruin the mood/effect.”

In my 20s, I considered it time and again, but in the end, and especially now at age 57, it’s just not the right thing for me. In fact, the older I got, the more ridiculous it might end up looking. To me, certain tattoos just don’t look right at certain ages. This is probably why so many people have them removed at a certain point in life, depending on the type and location.

And considering what I do for a living, it would probably be a distraction when dealing with clientele. In fact, one of my past jobs expressly forbade employees from having visible tattoos when dealing with the public, which meant I’d have had to cover it, even in the hot summer months.

Too much hassle.

But ya gotta admit, with the right build and a black muscle shirt, sexy woman by my side…

…yeah.

Although in reality, me being escorted by a sexy woman is usually after I’ve been put out of an all you can eat restaurant.
