Cameradventures: Full Circle

This is a repost of my Facebook post from August 9, 2015. Nothing grand about this one, I just figured I’d share it in my blog because it brought a smile.

I was a little depressed about not being with my family during their visit to Maryland to see my in-laws (this is a case where we get along just fine). I figured I would get some cheering up at this photo shoot I had to do today of a baby’s 1st birthday party and formal portraits. It was one of the easier gigs, something your average party-goer could do, but everyone would rather enjoy themselves and the party. That’s where I come in.

While taking candid pictures, I overheard someone in the adjacent room inquiring about some photos and my customer stated that her photographer shot them. She added that he’s “the really nice guy taking pictures out there, now”.

After they left the room, I went around the corner and saw various family photos, couple shots and Christmas pictures on display. Most of which, I took!

It completely made my day. It was such a blessing to me and a comfort to know that they valued my work like that. I know I took pictures for that reason but in a situation such as this, it’s a little like hearing your song on the radio.

There was another photographer there who does magazine photography and promotional work (With which I’m very familiar. Dude is The STUFF!). I was wondering why they didn’t hire him to shoot the event. Then again, he might have wanted to “enjoy himself” along with the others. Before he left, we talked for a bit and he asked me if I was willing to be his secondary (backup photographer) for weddings. Of course, I agreed!

It was such an honor that left me very encouraged.

I’m so thankful to God for the opportunities He’s giving me in this wonderful field. I’m nowhere near where I want to be as a photographer, but thanks to people like this, I’m growing every day.

And you know what? I ain’t depressed no mo’. Just in a little pain from pulling my hamstring at the party.

I know, I know…
“Kenny, how in the hell did you…? A party for a child? Indoors???”

Oh hush…
